Moorooka notes
Beaudesert Road is Moorooka's main street, with a busy strip of shops and restaurants, and Moorooka station on the Beenleigh line is a short walk from many homes. With the city about 7 km north, plenty of residents do short trips and could easily get by with a charge every few days.
Character homes here often have narrow side access, so a car parked at the back means a longer cable along the house. We route it in conduit along the wall or under the floor. Some streets have heritage or character controls that limit what can be fixed to the front of a house; a charger at the side or under the house usually avoids that. See switchboard upgrades if your board is original.
Charging under a Moorooka house
Much of Moorooka was built in the 1940s and 1950s, with post-war timber homes raised on stumps on quarter-acre blocks. Many have been lifted, enclosed underneath or extended. Where the car lives under the house, the wallbox goes on a stump or wall right beside it, and the cable drops down from the switchboard with very little fuss. Enclosed lower levels need a little more planning, since the cable may have to pass through a new wall.
The switchboard decides most of the cost. Moorooka homes range from untouched originals to full renovations. An original board with fuses and no safety switches needs replacing first; a recently upgraded one may just need a breaker and RCD added.
If you are planning a renovation, tell us early. A charger circuit added while the walls are open, or while the board is being replaced anyway, costs less than retrofitting it later.
How much does EV charger installation cost in Moorooka?
A standard single-phase EV charger installation in Moorooka costs from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger if you need one. Most Moorooka houses pay just that. The price only rises for a long cable run, an older switchboard that needs upgrading, or a three-phase charger, and you see any extra in a fixed written quote first.
| Situation | Price |
|---|---|
| Garage or carport close to a modern switchboard | From $990 installed (inc GST) |
| Charger on the far side of the house, or a detached garage | Standard price plus the extra cable, quoted from photos |
| Older board with fuses or no safety switches | Standard price plus a switchboard upgrade, quoted separately |
| Three-phase home with an 11kW or 22kW charger | Quoted per job |
The standard price covers a dedicated circuit with RCD protection, a standard cable run, mounting, charger setup, testing and your Certificate of Testing and Compliance. The charger itself is extra unless you already own one.
Keeping your Moorooka install affordable
- Send clear photos of the switchboard and charger spot, so we can quote without a site visit.
- If a second EV is coming, size the cable for it now rather than paying for a second callout later.
- Charge overnight on an off-peak tariff, or from surplus solar, to keep running costs low.
- Already have a charger from the dealer? We install it, so you only pay for installation.

EV charger questions from Moorooka
I am renovating my Moorooka Queenslander. When should I add the charger?
During the renovation if you can. Running the circuit while walls are open, or while the switchboard is being replaced, is cheaper than retrofitting later. Even if you buy the charger itself later, we can run and terminate the cable now so it is ready. Tell your builder or electrician early so it is part of the plan.
What does it cost to install an EV charger in Moorooka?
A standard single-phase install in Moorooka is from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger unless you already have one. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades and three-phase chargers cost extra and are quoted in writing first. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours.
What is the most affordable way to install an EV charger in Moorooka?
Put the charger close to the switchboard, choose a 7kW single-phase unit and send photos so we can quote without a visit. If you already have a charger, you only pay for installation, at the standard $990 inc GST. Every quote is fixed, so there are no surprises on the day.
Can you install a charger in an older Queenslander?
Yes. Older homes just need a closer look at the wiring and switchboard first. Many still have original or partly upgraded boards that lack room or safety switches for a new circuit. The good news is that the space under a high-set Queenslander often makes the cable run easy. We inspect first and quote any switchboard work separately so you can see it.
Can I just charge from a normal power point?
You can, but it is slow. A standard 10A power point with the portable cable that came with the car adds roughly 10 to 15 km of range per hour, which may suit a short commute. A dedicated wallbox is several times faster, safer for long daily sessions and lets you schedule charging for cheaper tariff periods.
Can you install a charger I have already bought?
Yes. We install chargers bought elsewhere, including units from car dealers and online stores, as long as they are approved for sale in Australia. Send us the model when you request a quote so we can check its requirements, cable sizing and any network settings before we arrive.
