From Northshore towers to Hamilton Hill

The apartment buildings along Kingsford Smith Drive, around Portside Wharf and in the newer Northshore Hamilton precinct follow strata rules: body corporate approval for anything on common property, and an agreed way to meter what you use. Some recent buildings were planned with EV charging in mind, so check your by-laws and building documents before assuming you are starting from nothing.

On Hamilton Hill and along the ridge towards Ascot, larger homes raise different questions. Several cars, a pool, big air conditioning loads and sometimes a lift all compete for the supply. A charger with load management, or two chargers that share capacity, keeps everything on the existing connection where possible.

Some of these homes already have three-phase power. If yours does and your car accepts 11kW on AC, a faster charger is an option, although for everyday driving 7kW single-phase is still enough.

Hamilton site notes

Garages on the hill are often built into the slope beneath the house, sometimes a long way from a switchboard upstairs. A long cable run is normal here and is simply priced in; our cost guide shows what moves a quote up or down.

With the airport just past Eagle Farm and the city a short run along Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton drivers rarely cover big distances day to day. A home charger here is about convenience more than range: plug in on arrival and stop thinking about it.

Prestige homes often have premium finishes, so we agree where the charger, conduit and any new breakers will sit before drilling anything. Concealed routes through the roof or under the house usually cost a little more but look far better.

What an EV charger install costs in Hamilton

In Hamilton, houses with a garage or carport near the board usually pay Connex Electrical's standard $990 inc GST, plus the charger. Apartment installs depend on the body corporate and the car park route, and older homes may need a switchboard upgrade. You get the full price in writing before booking.

What Hamilton homes usually pay
SituationPrice
Garage or carport close to a modern switchboardFrom $990 installed (inc GST)
Older board with fuses or no safety switchesStandard price plus a switchboard upgrade, quoted separately
Apartment bay wired from your own meter, once the body corporate approvesQuoted after we check the car park route

The standard price covers a dedicated circuit with RCD protection, a standard cable run, mounting, charger setup, testing and your Certificate of Testing and Compliance. The charger itself is extra unless you already own one.

Keeping your Hamilton install affordable

  • Ask your committee about a building-wide plan. Sharing one backbone costs less per bay than one-off installs.
  • If you rent, a written scope of works makes it easy for your landlord to say yes.
  • Load management lets more chargers share the existing supply, avoiding a costly upgrade.
  • Choose a 7kW single-phase charger. It suits almost every household and avoids three-phase costs.

We reach Hamilton from Mango Hill via the Gateway Motorway and Kingsford Smith Drive, about 22 km and roughly 25 minutes outside peak times. For Northshore and Portside buildings we arrange car park access with management first.

Every Hamilton job gets a fixed written price before any work starts, so the quote is what you pay. For a line-by-line breakdown, see the EV charger installation cost guide for Brisbane, or call 0474 207 609.

Your questions, answered

Does my Northshore Hamilton apartment already have EV charging infrastructure?

It depends on the building. Some newer developments include spare conduit, a dedicated distribution board or capacity set aside for chargers, while others have nothing in place. Your building manager or the as-built electrical drawings will show what exists. We can inspect the car park and switch room and tell the committee what is needed to add chargers.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Hamilton?

A standard single-phase install in Hamilton is from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger unless you already have one. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades and three-phase chargers cost extra and are quoted in writing first. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours.

How can I keep EV charger installation affordable in Hamilton?

For houses, keep the charger close to the switchboard and choose a 7kW single-phase unit, so the install stays at the standard $990 inc GST. For apartments, a shared, load-managed plan for the building costs less per bay than one-off installs. Every quote is fixed, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can I charge two EVs at home?

Yes. You can fit two chargers that share the available power, or one charger and plan charging times. Many chargers support load sharing, so both cars charge overnight without overloading your supply. If you expect a second EV soon, mention it at quoting so we size the circuit and cable for it now and save a second callout later.

Do I need three-phase power to charge an EV at home?

No. Most Brisbane homes are single phase, and a single-phase 32A charger delivers up to about 7.4kW, enough to refill a typical daily commute in two or three hours overnight. Three-phase only helps if your car can accept 11kW or 22kW on AC and you regularly need fast top-ups at home. We can tell you which applies to your car.

Do I need Energex approval to install an EV charger?

Energex rules for home EV chargers changed in October 2026, and we check the current requirements for your connection and lodge any notification Energex needs. For a typical single-phase home charger you do not need to apply for anything yourself. Three-phase chargers and multi-charger sites can need more checks against your connection, and we work through those before installation day.
