Deagon homes and what they need

Deagon's streets mix older timber houses, some raised, with brick homes from the seventies and later. The two need different approaches. In a raised timber house, the cable can usually travel under the floor to the parking spot, while in a slab-on-ground brick home it goes through the roof space and down a wall.

Older timber homes are where we most often find switchboards that need attention. Rewireable fuses, no safety switches or a crowded board all mean an upgrade before the charger circuit can be added. Our switchboard upgrade guide explains what is typically involved and why it matters for a 32A load.

Once the board is sorted, the charger itself is simple. A single-phase 7kW wallbox fully charges most EVs overnight, and it can be set to run in your cheaper tariff hours so the car is ready each morning.

What an EV charger install costs in Deagon

In Deagon, most home EV charger installs come in at Connex Electrical's standard price of $990 inc GST, with the charger extra unless you already own one. What can add to it is distance from the switchboard to your parking spot, the condition of the board, and whether you want three-phase. All of that is priced upfront in writing.

Deagon installs: what changes the price

Garage or carport close to a modern switchboardFrom $990 installed (inc GST)

Every standard install includes its own circuit and safety switch protection, the cable run within the standard length, mounting and setup, full testing and a Certificate of Testing and Compliance. The charger itself is extra unless you already own one.

Keeping your Deagon install affordable

  • If a second EV is coming, size the cable for it now rather than paying for a second callout later.
  • Mount the charger on the garage wall closest to the meter box. A shorter run is the easiest saving.
  • Choose a 7kW single-phase charger. It suits almost every household and avoids three-phase costs.
  • Charge overnight on an off-peak tariff, or from surplus solar, to keep running costs low.

Deagon is roughly 10.5 km from Mango Hill, around 15 minutes by road, so we are often working nearby and can fit in quotes quickly.

Every Deagon job gets a fixed written price before any work starts, so the quote is what you pay. For a line-by-line breakdown, see the EV charger installation cost guide for Brisbane, or call 0474 207 609.

Deagon: roads, rail and the bay

Deagon station is on the Shorncliffe line, and Sandgate Road runs through the suburb toward the bay. The Gateway Motorway is close by for trips south to the airport or across to the western side of the northside, which makes Deagon an easy base for drivers who cover a lot of ground.

Being near the coast, a charger on an open carport will see some salt in the air. An enclosed garage avoids it altogether; otherwise we use corrosion-resistant fixings and suggest a unit with a solid enclosure rating.

Solar suits households that work from home or keep a second car parked through the day. Our solar EV charging page explains how a solar-aware charger decides when to run.

Deagon EV charging FAQs

Can my Deagon charger be set up for my cheaper overnight tariff?

Yes. Most smart chargers let you set a start and finish time, so the car charges only in your off-peak or time-of-use window. Some households prefer wiring the charger to a controlled-load circuit instead, which only supplies power at set hours. Each option has trade-offs for solar and flexibility, and we explain them before choosing how to connect it.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Deagon?

A standard single-phase install in Deagon is from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger unless you already have one. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades and three-phase chargers cost extra and are quoted in writing first. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours.

How can I keep EV charger installation affordable in Deagon?

Put the charger close to the switchboard, choose a 7kW single-phase unit and send photos so we can quote without a visit. If you already have a charger, you only pay for installation, at the standard $990 inc GST. Every quote is fixed, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can you install a charger in an older Queenslander?

Yes. Older homes just need a closer look at the wiring and switchboard first. Many still have original or partly upgraded boards that lack room or safety switches for a new circuit. The good news is that the space under a high-set Queenslander often makes the cable run easy. We inspect first and quote any switchboard work separately so you can see it.

Can an EV charger be installed outside?

Yes. Most wallboxes are rated for outdoor use, so a carport post or external wall is fine. We still look at placement: out of direct afternoon sun where possible, clear of where water pools, and where the cable reaches the charge port without stretching across a path. A pedestal mount works where there is no wall nearby.

How much will charging add to my power bill?

It depends on how far you drive and when you charge. A typical EV uses roughly 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km, so multiply your weekly distance by that and by your tariff rate. Charging on surplus solar or an off-peak rate keeps the cost well below the price of petrol for the same distance. Check your retailer for current rates.
