Town blocks and acreage around Dayboro

Inside the township, many Dayboro homes are older timber houses, some high-set, on generous town blocks. These are often the easier rural installs: the meter box is on the house, the carport or garage is close by, and a high-set home lets us run cable underneath. The catch is age. An original switchboard may need replacing before a 32 amp circuit can be added safely.

Out on the surrounding acreage the job changes shape. The car often lives in a shed some distance from the house, so we trench a cable from the main board, fit a sub-board in the shed if you want lights and power there too, and mount the charger on a shed wall or a pedestal. Trench length and ground conditions drive most of the cost, so we walk the route with you before quoting.

A single-phase 7kW charger covers the drive down Dayboro Road to Petrie and beyond with room to spare.

Getting it right in Dayboro

Public fast charging is thinner on the ground out here than in the suburbs, so a home charger does more of the work. Setting a regular overnight charge to around 80 per cent, with a full charge before longer trips, keeps the battery happy and the car ready for whatever the week brings. If two drivers share the car, an app schedule saves arguing over who plugs in.

If you are thinking about putting solar panels on the shed where the car is parked, tell us at the quote stage. We can plan the charger circuit and sub-board with that in mind so the two work together later. Our solar EV charging page explains the charger types that follow your panels.

What an EV charger install costs in Dayboro

On Dayboro properties, the install price starts at Connex Electrical's standard $990 inc GST for a garage close to the main board, plus the charger. Sheds, detached garages and trenching across the block add to that, and every extra is listed in your written quote before work starts.

Dayboro installs: what changes the price
SituationPrice
Attached garage near the switchboardFrom $990 installed (inc GST)
Shed or detached garage with its own sub-boardStandard price plus cable, quoted from photos or a visit
Trenching across the block to the parking spotQuoted per job

The standard price covers a dedicated circuit with RCD protection, a standard cable run, mounting, charger setup, testing and your Certificate of Testing and Compliance. The charger itself is extra unless you already own one.

How to pay less for a charger in Dayboro

  • Pick the charger spot before trenching for anything else, so one trench can carry both.
  • Park and charge in the garage nearest the house switchboard if you can. Trenching is the biggest extra on acreage.
  • Send photos of the main board, any shed sub-board and the route between them.
  • If the shed already has a sub-board with spare capacity, the charger can often run from there.

Dayboro is about 21 km from Mango Hill, roughly a 25 minute drive, so we group hinterland visits and allow time to inspect the full cable route.

Every Dayboro job gets a fixed written price before any work starts, so the quote is what you pay. For a line-by-line breakdown, see the EV charger installation cost guide for Brisbane, or call 0474 207 609.

Your questions, answered

Can my older Dayboro home take a charger without a new switchboard?

Sometimes. If the board has modern circuit breakers, safety switches and a spare position, a charger circuit can usually be added. Older boards with rewireable fuses or asbestos-backed panels need replacing first. We check on site or from photos, and any upgrade is priced separately on the written quote so you can decide.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Dayboro?

A standard single-phase install in Dayboro is from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger unless you already have one. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades and three-phase chargers cost extra and are quoted in writing first. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours.

How can I keep EV charger installation affordable in Dayboro?

Charge in the garage nearest the main switchboard, so the install stays at the standard $990 inc GST. If the parking spot is further away, plan one trench for every service and use an existing shed sub-board if it has capacity. Every quote is fixed, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can you install a charger on an acreage property?

Yes. Acreage installs often involve a shed or garage some distance from the house, so the main questions are cable size, trenching and whether the shed already has a sub-board with enough capacity. Some acreage homes already have three-phase for pumps or workshops, which opens up faster charging. We quote the trenching and cable separately so the costs are clear.

How much will charging add to my power bill?

It depends on how far you drive and when you charge. A typical EV uses roughly 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km, so multiply your weekly distance by that and by your tariff rate. Charging on surplus solar or an off-peak rate keeps the cost well below the price of petrol for the same distance. Check your retailer for current rates.

Is there a Queensland rebate for home EV chargers?

Not at the moment. There is currently no Queensland Government rebate for home EV chargers. The state Zero Emission Vehicle rebate for cars closed on 2 September 2024 when its funding ran out. Occasionally a retailer or federally funded trial offers a subsidised charger, and if one fits your situation we will tell you. Be wary of "free installation" offers that lock you into a particular charger or energy plan.
